In recent years, the topic of reproducibility in research has received increasing attention both because of growing evidence that much of published research is not reproducible and because of requirements from federal funding agencies that researchers should promote practices and training to foster more reproducible research. This workshop is designed to introduce interested faculty to a workshop developed here at UC San Diego to engage research trainees in recognizing a variety of practices that might enhance the reproducibility of research. Participants will be provided with an overview of the workshop, as well as guidance, tips, and resources for teaching the workshop. On completion of the workshop, participants should be sufficiently prepared to teach the workshop as designed or to modify the workshop if needed for a particular audience or circumstances.

Special Topics Training: Incorporating Evaluation and Assessment

Friday, November 6, 2020 | 12:00 to 2:00pm Pacific Time

Over the last couple of years NIH, specifically NIGMS, is shifting their approach to training PhDs, postdocs, and MD-PhDs. The new approach calls for much greater program evaluation and a shift from primarily creating an environment to a learner-centered approach that is more trainee-focused in terms of outcomes and aligning program goals, trainee goals, activities and assessments. This workshop will help PI/PDs apply the new requirements to their program and help in identifying the shifts necessary and the simple ways of incorporating evaluation and assessment into cycles of improvement.
