Biographical Sketch (Biosketch)

 NEW - NIH’s Implementation of Common Forms for Biographical Sketch

  • Effective January 25, 2026
  • Applicants and senior/key personnel must use SciENcv to prepare the Common Forms.
There are two sections for Biosketches to be uploaded:
  • Participating Faculty Biosketches (under Program Plan, attachment #7)
    • Combine all participating faculty biosketches into one PDF in alphabetical order by PI last name. 
  • R&R Senior/Key Person Profile section in the SF424
    • Upload PD/PI and key personnel the biosketches here. 
    • Do not upload them in the participating faculty under the program plan

The personal statement section of the Biographical Sketch Supplement, while encouraged, is not required.

  • Training, mentoring, and promoting an inclusive and supportive scientific environment.
  • Providing training in rigorous and unbiased experimental design, methodology, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of results.
  • Aiding and supporting trainees in identifying and transitioning into careers in the biomedical research workforce that are consistent with trainees' skills, interests, and values.  
    • Fulfilling the need of the trainees to complete their Ph.D. degrees in a timely fashion.
  • Teaching trainees to conduct biomedical research with increasing responsibility and self-direction.
